Public enthusiasm towards the new Ghana cedi notes at Hohoe soared when banking business commenced on Tuesday.
Several people including school children besieged the entrance to Ghana Commercial Bank anxious to see the new notes and exchange their old notes for the new ones from customers coming out of the bank.
Customers of the bank were however, apprehensive of the sizes of the new coins, which they said were too small and could be lost easily.
These reactions followed Ghana News Agency's visit to four financial institutions at Hohoe to see how the public was reacting to the new currencies.
They were Bank of Ghana, Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), and Asubonten Rural Bank.
Mr Simon K. Ocloo, Ho Zonal Branch Manager of GCB said business was normal in all the 13 branches of the bank in the Volta Region because the bank had prepared adequately for the exercise.
He said the bank's three automatic teller machines at Hohoe, Ho and Aflao were loaded with the new currencies and were operating normally.
Mr Charles K. Sefah, Volta Regional Manger of Bank of Ghana said the bank was ready to assist clients overcome any difficulties that might emerge.
Mr Joseph Bakers Benn, Hohoe Branch Manager of ADB said the difference in today's transaction was that customers were being given fewer notes and their bank statements provided in both the old and new currencies.
