Health extension workers, currently on practical attachment at health institutions in the Upper West Region, have been cautioned against considering themselves as permanent staff of the Ministry of Health.
However, they will be posted to work in health institutions after six months training and receive allowances to be determined by the Ministry of Employment, Manpower and Youth.
Mohammed Sadik, the Regional Liaison Officer of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) disclosed these in an interview with the GNA at Wa on Tuesday.
He said 686 health extension workers were recruited to work in the region with the Lawra District getting 120 personnel, been the highest number while Wa East district had 60 personnel been the lowest.
Mr. Sadik said cheques covering three months arrears of 1.2 million cedis (120 Ghana cedis) for each of the personnel had been received and dispatched to the various districts for payment to beneficiaries.
He added that money had also been released to the districts for practical training for the extension personnel.
On the Community Protection Module, Mr. Sadik said the first batch of 50 personnel have passed out after intensive training at the Pwalgu Police Depot in the Upper East Region and were expected to begin work soon.
He said the personnel would assist the police to control traffic, maintain law and order and assist municipal and district assemblies to collect revenue and warned them not to engage in debt collection.
