The ban on the importation and sale of used underwear takes effect today. The Ghana Standards Board says handkerchiefs, mattresses and sanitary wear are also affected by the ban.
Dealers in second hand goods have petitioned the Standards Board to reconsider its decision because it will affect their business.
But the Head of Marketing and Public Relations at the Standards Board, Kofi Amponsah Bediako says the decision stands.
In any case he said the items being banned constitute just about eight per cent of items imported into the country.
He said if the traders want the law to be repealed, they should go to Parliament and petition the House for a review of the law.
Mr. Amponsah Bediako, said goods already imported into the country will be allowed to be sold.
