The Saltpond branch of the Knights and Ladies of St John International have donated items worth over five million cedis to the Children's Ward of the Saltpond District Hospital.
The Catholic Church adopted the Ward and named it after the late Pope John Paul II.
The donation made up of toiletries and detergents formed part of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the society a charitable group in the Catholic Church in Saltpond. It was established in June 1937.
Dr John Baptist Wilson, President, who made the presentation said "it is worthwhile to donate the items to the kids and their mothers on the occasion of our 70th anniversary".
According to Dr Wilson, the Saltpond branch was the second to be formed after one in America where it has its headquarters.
Edward Kwesi Walker, Executive Officer and Miss Mabel Blankson, Principal Nursing Officer received the items on behalf of the Ward.
Mr Walker appealed to the society, other organisations, donor agencies and individuals to assist to provide a mortuary for the Hospital.
He said the Hospital needed a good mortuary considering its strategic position and the fact that it was situated in an accident prone area.
Miss Blankson appealed for a water tanker to help the Hospital to solve its perennial water problem.
