Mr Kwasi Aboagye, Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday appealed to workers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to strive to make the Scheme a viable national asset.
He was speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for work on a two-storey Regional Headquarters building of the Scheme in Ho.
It is expected to be completed in eight months.
He urged workers of the Scheme to guard its bright future jealously and be meticulous towards eliminating collusions aimed at undermining the Scheme.
Mr Aboagye said the new regional office building would enhance the visibility of the Scheme and ensure that staff worked in comfort, security and dignity.
He also urged the NHIS to continue educating its card bearers against giving their cards to others to be used when visiting health facilities.
Mr Nestor Elliot Akototse, Volta Regional Manager of the NHIS, said the completion of the building would end payment the of exorbitant rents.
He said the Scheme, in addition to providing decent offices, will also provide training for staff to improve on their capabilities so they could perform better.
