Never before have there been so many products on the market tailored to the female desire to remain vibrant and youthful.
Yet every day, despite those anti-aging pills and personal care products, you’re still doing things that dramatically age you.
What can you do differently to halt premature wrinkling, chronic disease, and energy decline? Read on to learn which daily habits are thwarting your anti-aging efforts.
1. Overeating
Eating until you’re too full (even if you’re digging in to fruits or vegetables) can impact your body in many negative ways. Not only can overeating add inches to your waistline, you may also start to develop the early signs of heart disease or type 2 diabetes. What’s worse, overeating can stretch the lining of your stomach, leading to health conditions, such as hernias or ulcers. Cutting calories and fat from your diet and ensuring you chew your food slowly to give your body time to feel full will ensure you reduce the likelihood that you overeat.
2. Staring at a screen for too long
Whether you’re watching television, playing video games or surfing the Internet, staring at a screen for the majority of your day will take a toll on your body. It can impact your eyesight (you squint more when looking at a screen), your waistline (you don’t burn many calories sitting), and your brain (your brain needs active stimulation to avoid degeneration). Cut the amount of screen time you give to your electronics and you’ll instantly notice a difference in the way your body and mind feel.
3. Stress
An instant ager, stress has a negative impact on all facets of your body’s health, from the efficiency of your heart beats to how readily your brain reacts to certain situations. Get to know your stress triggers and devise ways to defuse or avoid stressful situations. Need somewhere to start? Learn to say no. Most of the stress you experience may comes from your inability to balance everything you take on, such as parties, work, hobbies, and more. Unless you enjoy everything you do, say no and free up more time for anti-aging relaxation.
4. Sagging sex life
Recent research suggests engaging in a healthy and active sex life is a key component to maintaining youthful energy. Not only does “getting it on” reduce stress, the chemicals your body releases post-orgasm help to boost your immune system, lessen pain and improve heart strength. What’s more, some scientists believe a regular romp in the hay has more positive side effects on the body than upping the amount of sleep you get. So, seriously, get it on!
5. The pesky iPod
Advances in technology give you the ability to listen to music everywhere you go – on the subway, in the car and (especially!) when you’re exercising. And while toting around tunes adds a lift to your day, blasting your iPod or other music player can irreparably damage the quality of your hearing. Warning: Nothing will make you feel older than realizing you can no longer hear properly. Opt for headphones or a noise-reducing headset to plug into your iPod instead, and keep your volume at a comfortable and safe level.
