The next 48 hours will be the longest and perhaps the most important for Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi in his quest to win a seat on the CAF executive Committee.
The election for positions on the CAF and FIFA executive Committees will be held Wednesday, February 23 during the 33rd CAF Ordinary Assembly in Khartoum, Sudan.
Kwesi Nyantayi who guided Ghana to two successful World Cups in 2006 and 2010 is hopeful he will get the nod, but he must first beat off competition from Anjorin Moucharafou of Benin, Tata Adaglo Avlessi of Togo and Hima Souley of Niger to replace outgoing Zone West A member General Seyi Memene of Togo.
Sports journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah who is in Sudan to cover the event told Joy Sports there are no favorites for any of the available positions.
He said there was intense lobbying in the run-up to the elections.
Meanwhile, Kwesi Nyantakyi has said he is working on facilitating the process for Ghanaians in the Diaspora who are still eligible to play for the Black Stars.
Sunderland striker Danny Welbeck has recently been on the radar of the GFA who believe the 20-year-old will be important to the Black Stars if he finally decides to switch allegiance from England to Ghana.
Welbeck who has played for England at the U-16 and 20 levels at the weekend revealed to the Daily Mirror he genuinely is in a dilemma over which Country he should commit his international career to.
Nyantakyi however says the FA will not give up efforts on seeing the 20-year-old play for Ghana.
Danny Welbeck’s strike partner at Sunderland is Asamoah Gyan who has also been tasked to talk Welbeck into playing for Ghana.
Asamoah Gyan in an interview with Joy Sports said he will be delighted to see Welbeck play for Ghana but maintained the choice rests firmly with Welbeck.
