Thirteen institutions in the Assin District have been arraigned before a district magistrate court at Assin Foso for failing to pay the social security contributions of their workers to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
They are the Assin South District Assembly, the Saviour Cambridge, Wisdom Preparatory, Faith and Fire Preparatory and Glory International schools.
The rest are the Victory International, Ebenezer Preparatory, Chief Danso Memorial, Liberty Community and Gentile Preparatory schools, Emmanuel Memorial Academy and the Sunrise Herbal Centre.
Proprietors of the institutions pleaded alibi and the case was adjourned to July 18.
Prosecuting, Ms Sophia Akwamuwor told the court that between September and December last year, SSNIT inspectors detected that although contributions totaling ¢63.8 million have been deducted from the salaries of their workers, they had not been paid into their individual accounts with SSNIT.
The court ordered a bench warrant for the arrest of David Amoah Williams, proprietor of Saviour Cambridge School for failing to appear in court.
