The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has shut down Airways Catering Limited for operating under unhygienic conditions.
The company primarily provides catering services for airlines, VIP and presidential flights at the Kotoka International Airport.
Accra Mayor Alfred Vanderpuije tells Joy Business they had to seal off the premises in the interest of public health.
“We had to do it yesterday because we received reports of insanitary conditions prevailing in their operations," he said.
He added the toilet facilities and the entire premises were not conducive for cooking in the place, necessitating the action by the AMA.
He added the assembly will allow the company to resume operations only when it is satisfied with the sanitary conditions there.
“We want them to do their business, we are not against that. But we have outbreak of cholera, they have been serving the public, providing very viable services to travelers on flights and we have to make sure what they do is in a way that is conducive for public health.
“…As soon as we can certify that the place is conducive for what they do we will open it,” he assured.
