Fresh from three consecutive defeats in the Onetouch Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will have to put up an improved performance when they welcome Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals in the 18th Week fixture at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium in Cape Coast on Sunday.
The defending league champions with no point in their last three matches are faced with another stiff opposition in a youthful Liberty side who are capable of deciding the outcome of a match on any day.
Turkish coach, Telat Uzum whose tactics has recently come under severe criticisms after the third successive defeat last Wednesday, is expected to introduce some fresh limbs into his set-up to record a vintage performance to put the smiles back on the faces their ‘perplexed’ and vociferous teeming fans.
Knowing very well that another setback will be crucial to Kotoko’s chances of retaining the League Cup, the Turk will have to delve deep into his tactical machinery to make the dream of grabbing all the three points become a reality.
All eyes will be on the back-to-batan diminutive midfielder, Stephen Oduro, who will be expected to combine with the likes of captain Edmund Owusu Ansah, Kobina Dodzie among others to secure Kotoko their fist win this year.
Liberty’s asset in midfield which revolves around youngster Emmanuel Allen, Kojo Asamoah and veteran Dan Yeboah will definitely not be pushovers, as their confidence of reversing the 2-1 home defeat during the first round remains all high on their agenda to further dent the pride of the ‘Porcupine Warriors’.
From all indications, a draw looks possible taking into consideration the form of the two sides.
At Berekum, Arsenal will host Tano Bofoakwa in a regional derby which seems to favour the home side whilst Real Tamale United (RTU) make a southwards trip to Swedru to face Gamba All Blacks.
Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord will play as guest of Kpando Heart of Lions at the Kpando Park while Kumasi King Faisal and Sekondi Hasaacas will settle their scores at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
Revelation of the season, Tema Youth, currently flying high after their lone goal victory over Kotoko last Wednesday will face a stiffer test when they clash against Ashantigold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Accra Great Olympics and Tema Real Sportive will square it off at the Tema Park.
On Saturday, League leaders, Accra Hearts of Oak look set to maintain their dominance on the first position as they welcome bottom placed Power FC also at the Tema Park.
