Dacosta Manu, a trader from Twifo Praso who bit off the nose and left ear of his rival has been fined 4 million cedis by a district magistrate's court at Twifo Praso.
Manu who pleaded not guilty to causing harm will go to prison for 18 months in default.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George Okine told the court presided over by Seth Bio Nyamekye that on the night of February 26, Manu, who claimed to be the husband of one Ms Gladys Mintah, engaged in a scuffle with the complainant, Paul Ansaful, Ms Mintah's boyfriend, in her house.
He said in the process, Manu bit off the complainant's nose and left ear.
The court, also fined Anthony Yaovi, from Akyemfokrom, near Twifo Praso one million cedis for threat of harm, resisting arrest and assault.
Yaovi, who pleaded guilty, was also bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months and will go to jail for 12 and six months if he fails to pay the fine, and breaks the bond, respectively.
The case for the prosecution was that sometime in 2006, Yaovi borrowed a pair of sneakers from one Kwesi Acquah, and wore them on a journey to Accra.
It said on his return from Accra, the complainant asked Yaovi to return his sneakers, but he pleaded with him to give him time to buy a new pair for him.
Yaovi failed to honour his promise after persistent demands and on May 20, this year, he picked up a quarrel with the complainant and threatened to kill him if he demands for the sneakers.
He made a report to the police who went to arrest Yaovi, but he resisted and bit one of the two policemen who came to arrest him.
