Workshop on malaria control ends

Madam Becklyn Ulzen-Christian, the Executive Director of Partfrienders Outreach Ministry, an NGO operating in the Greater Accra and Central Regions engaged in Malaria Control Programme has urged participants at a two-day workshop on malaria eradication to educate the public to adopt practices that would help combat malaria in the society. She said clean environment and destruction of mosquito breeding grounds were some of the ways to avoid malaria disease. The NGO organised the workshop, which was attended by teachers, artisans, traditional rulers, the clergy, Moslem leaders, and opinion leaders in Kasoa and surrounding areas in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service with support from Global Fund. Madam Ulzen-Christian urged the participants to let their community members benefit from the skills and knowledge acquired from the workshop to help fight the malaria menace. According to her, the worship was, among others, to sensitize the people in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District on the dangers and effects of tuberculosis (TB) and malaria, which are among the killer diseases in the Sub-Sahara. Mrs. Nana Yaw Williams, National Co-ordinator of the NGO and Mr. George Asante, Medical Officer in-Charge of Kasoa Health Center were the resource persons. They took the participants through topics including causes and control of TB and Malaria, prevention as well as correct doses of Artesunate Amodiaquine, which had been recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO) for curing malaria. Mr. Asante urged the participants to let the public know that Malaria and TB are curable and urged people with their symptoms to report to the hospitals immediately for examination and treatment. He reminded the participants that they have a big role to play to help in rolling back malaria and TB by creating awareness of the diseases among the public. Source: GNA
