Harry Redknapp has lashed out at the Telegraph reporters whom he insists tried to trap him, and branded them 'scumbags' for sticking him with a bill at the end of it all.

The former Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers' manager is the latest high-profile name to be mentioned by the Telegraph as part of their 'Football for Sale' campaign, and has been accused of failing to report certain players, at an unnamed team he managed, for betting on a match which they featured in themselves.

There are strict rules against betting by professional footballers, and they are prohibited by the FA when it comes to such practices.

Rednkapp, however, denies any wrongdoing and said that there was never even a bet on the players' part.

Speaking on BT Sport on Saturday afternoon, the Englishman rubbished the Telegraph's claims, labelling it as rubbish.

“It’s a nonsense," he remarked. "If that’s the best they could get out of three hours of sitting with me and trying to stitch me up, it’s sad.

“The worst part is that when the bill came up, the other four scumbags got up and left me with the bill.

“They never had a bet anyway. No-one had a bet. Impossible. Anyone who’s watching this who understands betting odds knows that a team on the top playing a team that’s relegated, it’s not a betting proposition. You can’t bet on that. It’s ridiculous.”
