Tele-doctor consultation service launched

BIMA, a micro-insurance agent has launched a new insurance product to provide healthcare via mobile phones in Accra.

Dubbed: ‘Bima Doctor’, the product is a tele-doctor service that gives customers access to consultations with a qualified doctor over the phone.

With as little as GHȼ2 per month, subscribers of the Bima Doctor enjoy unlimited calls to a doctor for medical advice over the phone which also covers spouses children under 18 years.

Speaking at the health screen exercise at Abola as part of the launch of the product, the Mobile Health Division Manager, Phoebe Ash said Bima Doctor is giving subscribers a personal doctor on their mobile phones.

She indicated that, the aim of the product is to improve access to quality healthcare for low income Ghanaians and to relieve the burden on hospital system.

Ms. Ash noted that, Bima has a team of licensed medical practitioners available on the phones in a language for a private and confidential consultation.

“The doctors will advise the patients on suitable self-treatment options or the closest recommended hospital or clinic" she added.

So far, the Bima Health Division Manager revealed that, in just than 18 months, more than 55,000 customers have registered and the medical team has completed over 25,000 live consultations.

Phoebe Ash stated that, Bima has provided 400 free health screenings in the Greater Accra region. The health screening included tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, eyesight and hepatitis B.

For his part, Country Manager, Russell Haresign said the company through Bima Doctor to screen over 30,000 people in Accra as part of its corporate social responsibility.

He observed that, the medical team also provides public education on chronic diseases, counseling and advice on fitness, diet and maternal health.

Russell Haresign urged the public especially market women to patronize their service for a reliable health insurance.
