The Rescue and Fire Fighting unit of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority at the Kotoka International Airport has managed to salvage an aircraft involved in a freakish accident while offloading its cargo.
The stationery Boeing 747 cargo plane belonging to Atlas Air, was being offloaded of what is said to be a consignment of the new Ghana cedi due for circulation in July, when the nose gradually lifted skywards, suspending some five metres off the tarmac.
The incident occurred on Thursday night at the Aviance Cargo terminal.
The rescue team from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority eventually managed to bring down the nose of the plane safely at 12:45 pm on Friday in an impressive but tactical operation that lasted some three hours.
