A 23-year-old unemployed man, Yaw Ofosu was burnt to death when fire engulfed a seven-room house destroying property worth millions of cedis at Akyem Oda, on Monday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mike O. Amofa, Akyem Oda District Police Commander said that at about 1600 hours on that fateful day, a young girl in the house saw smoke coming from one of the rooms and raised an alarm for help.
He said the house later caught fire and when rescuers arrived on the scene, they heard the deceased shout for help from his room, and the door was forced open but Ofusu could not be rescued due to the intensity of the fire.
DSP Amofa said the Akyem Oda District fire station was contacted but five out of the seven rooms were completely razed before personnel of the station arrived adding that the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
He said the charred body of the decease had been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
