The Kwahu West District office of the National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE), has intensified its education on the re-denomination of the cedi, as the date for the introduction of the new currency approaches.
More than 50 communities, ten first and second cycle schools, 15 identifiable groups and institutions and 15 churches have so far benefited from their educational programmes on the exercise.
Addressing one of the community durbars at Saafi, a Senior Field Officer of the Commission, Kofi Agyari Boateng advised illiterates not to give up on understanding the conversion procedure from the old cedi to the new.
He urged them to rely on their little knowledge in counting, which they had used in their trading activities over the years.
Mr Boateng advised them to be weary of swindlers popularly referred to as "419" who might pose as bank official and agents sent to assist them to change their currencies only to defraud them.
Osafo Kantanka also a Field Officer of the NCCE urged politicians not to politicise the exercise since it would benefit the entire population irrespective of their political affiliations.
The Chief of Saafi, Nana Badu Akuamoah urged Ghanaians to ensure the proper handling of the new cedi notes for them to last longer.
The District Director of the NCCE, Flex Obeng Forson, in an address to a meeting of the district branch of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) said the re-denomination exercise had larger economic benefit for the nation including the reduction in inflation and easier handling of the new currency notes.
He appealed to literates to explain the conversion process to their unfortunate illiterate ones to ensure the success of the exercise.
