Following AC Milan’s 3-0 drubbing of Brescia earlier on Saturday, Juventus needed a similar result versus Catania on Sunday, if their dreams of annexing the Scudetto were to stay alive. And win they did, courtesy a hard-fought 3-1 drubbing of Catania in last nights LIVE Serie A action on Joy Sports and Adom TV on Multi-TV.
Simone Pepe put the Bianconeri in front after 35 minutes, but Takayuki Morimoto brought the home side deservedly level a minute later. Two strikes from Fabio Quagliarella, who also saw a valid goal not given, earned Juventus all three points against a Catania side who had dominated the game, but lacked the killer instinct in front of the net. The victory moves Juventus to within six points of league leaders AC Milan and provides some respite for the embattled ‘Old lady of Turin following their embarrassing exit from the Europa League group stages earlier in the week.
In other results Lazio moved to the second position behind AC Milan thanks to an impressive 3-1 win over a lacklustre Inter Milan, increasing the pressure on Inter boss Rafael Benitez.
Chievo recovered from two goals down to grab a 2-2 draw against Roma in atrocious conditions at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. Two goals from Fabio Simplicio in the first half put the Giallorossi in command on a pitch which was practically unplayable due to the huge patches of mud and sand. Davide Moscardelli gave Chievo hope on the hour mark with the pitch also playing its part in his goal and Pablo Granoches scored the equaliser ten minutes from time before Daniele De Rossi was dismissed as he showed his frustration.
Sampdoria bounced back from their European disappointment in midweek (they crashed out of the league after going down 2-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven) with a convincing 3-0 win over ten-man Bari. Giampaolo Pazzini put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after 17 minutes. Stefano Guberti then took centre stage with two second-half strikes to secure a fine win.
Adrian Mutu grabbed the only goal of the game to earn Fiorentina a 1-0 victory over Cagliari at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Hernan Crespo struck twice in a 2-1 win over Udinese as Parma climbed further away from the Serie A relegation zone.
Bologna put their off-field distractions (Bologna went into the game at the Dino Manuzzi stadium after being slapped with a one-point deduction for unpaid taxes this week behind them) and claimed a first win on the road this season in Serie A as they won 2-0 at Cesena.
Genoa came from behind to pick up their third away win of the Serie A season with a 3-1 victory at struggling Lecce.
Manchester United battle Valencia this “Champions Tuesday” on Multi-TV for supremacy in Group C. Top notch Bundesliga and Serie A action returns at the weekend.
