Paris Saint-Germain fired an early message to their European rivals with an impressive 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup in Ohio.
Jonathan Ikone netted the opener inside two minutes and substitute defender Thomas Meunier added a brace as the French champions raced into a 3-0 lead in the opening period.
Marcelo pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, before a spate of changes – Real boss Zinedine Zidane sending out an entirely different side for the second half, including his son Enzo – contributed to a flatter second half.
The Spaniards acquitted themselves better after the break, but were denied another goal by resolute defending.
New PSG boss Unai Emery now has three wins from three matches as he seeks to transfer his club’s domestic dominance onto the continental stage.
One concern for the Ligue 1 giants, however, was the early departure of captain Thiago Silva through injury.
