Four clans claiming ownership of the Ada Songhor Salt Lagoon have appealed to government to immediately release the Ada Songhor Salt Lagoon concession to them to operate.
The Clans, Adabiawe, Lomobiawe, Dangbebiawe and Tekperbiawe say salt winning is their main source of income.
A spokesman of the clans Joseph Amatey Tackie made the appeal at a news conference at Anakpenya, in the Dangme East District of Greater Accra Region, to express displeasure at the delay in releasing the concession.
He said a committee formed by the clans, chiefs and opinion leaders to implement the Land Use Plan Policy held a meeting with the Minister for Lands, Forestry and Mines over the issue in 2003.
According to him, almost four years after the meeting, nothing has been achieved. He has therefore appealed to authorities concerned to consider their economic plight and release the land for them.
He pointed out that continued holding of the land in trust is an infringement on their right to ownership and must be repealed.
