The technical handlers of Ghana’s home-based national team claims in-form Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Sammy Adjei is part of their plans for next year’s CHAN finals.
The Hearts of Oak gloves man’s absence from a preliminary 30-man squad released on Thursday has raised a lot of eyebrows.
But his exclusion has been explained by the technical team who say the former Ghana number two’s name will appear on the next batch of players to be released.
“Sammy Adjei has no problem. Maybe he’s in the second list because we have about eight goalkeepers who are on the two lists,” Head coach Herbert Addo explained.
“We are doing everything in phases. We have a team which is there and this season we have a lot of players who have come up so we have the first phase who are coming next week, the second phase the following week and out of the two we get the best and do some training to get the best team for Ghana.”
Adjei has been in form after returning to competitive football this season with the former African champions.
Ghana won silver at the maiden CHAN tournament in Ivory Coast early last year.
