Two persons were killed at Nyinase and the roofs of 10 houses ripped off at Tom, both communities in Nkoranza district, during a severe rainstorm at the weekend.
The deceased, Yusif Godomah, 32, and Ibrahim Susunya, 12, met their death when a tree fell on a shed under which they were resting.
Lawrence B. Dakubu, a relative of Godomah said that the late relative had taken shelter under the shed when it started raining.
Mr. Dakubu said a colleague farmer had his right arm broken and was responding to treatment at St. Theresa’s hospital at Nkoranza, while the deceased had since been buried after autopsy.
At Tom, John Opoku, assembly member said that about 70 people had been displaced and were putting up with relatives and friends while others sought refuge in classrooms.
He noted that the affected landlords would spend substantial millions of cedis to rehabilitate their buildings.
Mr. Opoku called on the district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization to assist to rehabilitate the affected people.
