The Vice Chairman of the Ghana Cricket Association, Ben Nunoo-Mensah has downplayed government interference in Ghana’s double nomination for the upcoming CAF executive committee elections.
Government initially endorsed FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, to take up Ghana’s slot for the upcoming CAF executive committee elections.
But last week, the Youth and Sports Ministry wrote to the FA giving an order for football legend Abedi Pele to be given the nomination.
Ben Nunoo-Mensah agrees government committed an error in nominating Abedi Pele for a position it had already endorsed FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi for, but thinks the media is exaggerating the situation.
He doesn’t understand why when the government endorsed Nyantekyi’s nomination it was not viewed as interference but the request for Abedi to rather be nominated if seen as interference.
In his view, there was nothing wrong with what the government did.
“I am not too excited about people going about bashing the [Youth and Sports] Ministry, bashing government.”
