Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has urged boxer Isaac Dogboe to avoid complacency in his quest to become Ghana's next world champion.

The Minister who was previously a boxing promoter sees Dogboe as a potential world champion and with the required focus and discipline, he could emulate former World champions from Ghana.

Dogoe recently won the WBO Africa featherweight title after a sixth round knockout of Edward Kakembo of Uganda and Nii Lante

Vanderpuye wants to see an attitude of extra seriousness from the young boxer to enhance his chances of a world title.

“There is the need for you not to be swollen headed with this achievement.  We are looking at you being able to win other world titles possibly unifying the world titles in your division and becoming the ultimate champion of that division,” Nii Lantey said.

“It is not going to be easy because you are in a division where we have difficult fighters from Asia and Latin America.”
But I know if Azumah Nelson achieved it, if Ike Quartey did, Alfred Quartey did it, Nana Yaw Konadu did it, Ebo Danquah did, Agbeko did and Joshua Clottey has done it, you are also capable of doing it.”

“They are also Ghanaians just as you are, the only difference was that they were committed and dedicated to what they were doing.”

“So I will encourage you to be focused and disciplined.”

Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe will face Aziz Quartey at the Salafest Boxing show at the Opera Square this weekend.
