The Ghana Boxing Authority have presented cheques to two former world champions as part of grants given to boxing greats. The two recepients of the grants are David Kotei "POISON" and Ebo Danquah.
David Kotei received $4800 while Ebo Danquah received $3600.
David Kotei was as a world featherweight boxing champion between 1975 and 1976 and was also the first Ghanaian professional boxer to win a world title while on the Michael Ebo Danquah wonthe African Boxing Union light flyweight title, World Boxing Council (WBC) International light flyweight, World Boxing Council (WBC) International light flyweight title.
Speaking at the event, Ghana Boxing Authority President ,Peter Zweenes, spoke about the difficulty in acquiring the grant for the duo.
"It all started when we went to the WBC convention in Thailand in 2014, we heard about the grants being given to former WBC world champions who in one way or the other were in need, so we presented their names and followed it up with series of letters and petitions," Zweenes said.
"It was not easy because initially the fund was centered in Europe and America forgetting Africa with our petitions we were able to sail through and got this amount for them. so far 10 boxer's worldwide have benefited."
