Michael Essien will return for Chelsea in the crunch English Premiership game against Liverpool on Sunday after sitting out their midweek Champions League assignment.
The Ghanaian midfielder was rested for the 4-1 win over Spartak Moscow but manager Carlo Ancelotti expects to have him back for what is sure to be a major test for the defending champions and League leaders at Anfield.
“Essien had a little problem on his toe but will be fit for the game against Liverpool,” the Italian said.
The Ghanaian has been in good form for Chelsea this season and will be an integral member of the side as they look to keep up their winning run in the League.
Meanwhile Newcastle’s Ivory Coast international Cheik Tiote is keen to follow in the footsteps of Ghana star Michael Essien after his impressive start to life in the English Premiership.
The 24-year old who played for the Elephants at the 2010 World Cup has been compared favourably to Essien and the Ivorians takes that as a huge compliment.
"Obviously, I'm only young, but to be compared to Michael Essien is quite a compliment, he told the club’s official site.
"I'm very proud to be spoken of like that. I've always watched Michael Essien as a role model in midfield and one day I hope to be as good as him - or even better!"
