Atta Kouajo, a farmer from Buake in La Cote d'Ivoire, has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court, for allegedly attempting to use his 10-year-old son for money rituals.
Atta, who denied the charge, will re-appear before the court on July 5.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Madam Wilhelmina Hammond, that the complainant in the case is a radio presenter with Mercury FM Station, Bantama in Kumasi.
She said on May 29 this year at about 9am the complainant and a colleague were on their way to cover an assignment at Ahenema Kokoben near Kumasi, when their attention was drawn by a witness in the case that, the accused was seeking help to use his son for "juju" to get money.
The prosecutor said the complainant and the colleague then told the informant to feign interest by telling the accused that he could lead him to a "jujuman".
Police Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said while the complainant was monitoring them, the witness led him to the Race Course area, a suburb of Kumasi, where the complainant contracted another witness to pose as a "Mallam" who would perform the ritual.
She said the accused together with the son went to the Mallam where the accused told him that his son was not attending school and wants to "sacrifice" him (son) for money.
Prosecution said the supposed Mallam charged him 100 million of which the accused agreed to pay.
The supposed Mallam told the accuse to follow him to his master, but was rather taken to Mercury FM station as planned, and was arrested and handed over to the Kumasi Asokwa Police and after investigation was charged with the offence.
