Ghana will aim for an impressive start to this year's African Women Championship with victory in their opening group match on Tuesday in South Africa.
The Black Queens, who are still waiting for the African title after reaching the finals on three occasions in the 12-year history of the women's competition face Algeria in Group B.
The sides pre-tournament tour of Germany where they chalked two impressive victories against Liga two sides, BV-Coppenburg and FFC Gutersloft has given the Black Queens a good lift going into the continental competition.
Despite those wins, Ghana's camp cannot be carried away having been eliminated in the group stage in the last competition.
For Ghana's coach, A.K. Edusei, his side needs to take every game as it comes in a rather tough group B which also includes Cameroon and reigning champions Equatorial Guinea.
“Being in the same group with the defending champions (Equatorial Guinea) makes the group very dicey. There is also Cameroon, who have a strong team and we can’t underrate Algeria though they are not among the big teams," Ghana's coach said.
“Our target is to qualify for the World Cup and that means we have to reach the final. After the World Cup slot, we can think of winning the title.”
