The price of the locally produced Golden Tree chocolate is at an all-time high. The confectionery has become extremely rare in the past few months because of a prolonged shutdown of the factory.
Joy Business checks reveal that the few places stocking the product sell the large-sized 50 gram bar for instance, at 5 cedis.
It used to sell for less than 2 cedis. Joy Business’ Sheila Hazel Adjaye has been about town observing the sale of the Golden Tree Chocolate which has become so highly priced it is almost selling like the precious metal it is named after.
She said she spent days combing Accra for the product and came across vendors who expressed their frustrations at getting the product to her.
