The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Ambrose Dery on Monday advised elected assembly members who looked down on their government appointed colleagues as second rate assembly members to stop the practice.
Mr. Dery who gave the advice when inaugurating the Lawra, Jirapa-Lambussie and Nadowli District assemblies at separate ceremonies on Monday, said both categories of members have the same role and objectives and urged them to work in unity to promote the development of their districts.
Mr. Dery appealed to assembly members in the region to mobilize their communities for the 2006 national vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis and administering of Vitamin A Supplement.
He said they should ensure that parents particularly, mothers assemble at the immunization centres and other designated points.
Mr. Dery announced that a high-powered team comprising Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), Minister of Health, Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, officials of UNICEF and some Ambassadors to Ghana would be in the region to observe the exercise.
The region has the highest under-five mortality rate in the country, with a rate of 208 per 1,000 life births, hence the special focus on the region.
Mr. Alban S. K. Bagbin, Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Nadowli West and Mr. Matthias Puozaa, Member of Parliament for Nadowli East were present at the inauguration of the 54 member Nadowli District assembly.
