Dr Maame Amo-Addae, Shama District Director of Health, on Thursday complained about the absence of an ambulance in the entire Shama District to meet emergency health care needs of the people. The situation, according her, had become worrisome since referrals to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital were always done by taxis and other commercial vehicles – a situation she said compounded the patients’ complications. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Shama, Dr Amo-Addae called on the authorities to, as matter of urgency, respond to the logistic needs of Clinics and health centres within the district to save lives. She was disappointed at the way pregnant women, in particular, had to be carried in taxis with IV fluid on them, when such referrals were made. Dr Amo-Addae also called for the renovation of the Supomu-Dunkwa health centre, saying “the whole facility is in a total mess”. Source: GNA
