Fourteen former senior national footballers and a host of others have been nominated for various awards for their dedicated service to Ghana.
The long list of 33 awardees is dominated by sports heroes including former sprinter Alice Anum, three times African footballer of the year Abedi Ayew Pele, golden boot winner Abdoul Razak among others, as well former boxing world champions D.K Poison and Azumah Nelson.
They are to receive their awards at a ceremony this Saturday, for their selfless service to mother Ghana during their generation.
The ceremony is being organized by Action Progressive Institute as part of events to mark the Institutes 10th anniversary celebrations.
Director for Action Progressive Institute James Amankwaah told a news conference that, apart from the sports heroes, past broadcasters, musicians, comedians pastors as well as teachers and medical practitioners will also be honoured.
Mr. Amakwaah said the event is to create the awareness in Ghanaians on the need to honour national heroes and give them due recognition to urge the younger ones on to go and die for the country.
He said almost all the awardees have confirmed their participation in the ceremony except a few others who cannot make it because they are on national or international assignments outside the shores of Ghana.
