The Chief Executive of Strategic Communications Africa Limited (Stratcomm), Mrs Esther Cobbah has entreated young entrepreneurs to resist corruption.
She says in their efforts to win contracts and secure business deals, they will be confronted with situations and conditions that seek to corrupt them, but they must remain firm and resolute in their resistance to such corrupting ideas.
She was speaking on the topic: “Enterprise; A Matter of Heart and Mind” on Joy Business’ reality show, MyBusiness 2010, Wednesday.
Corruption in business, she said, “is real but resist it and I tell you, you will prosper. I have experienced it, try it and you will prosper.”
Madam Cobbah also admonished the 10 young entrepreneurs who have been selected from over 1,700 people who applied for the programme, to operate their businesses with integrity, honesty and fairness to both employees and customers.
Being “fair to your clients” means “you deliver what you said you will deliver to them and if you see that you haven’t done it right, go back and fixing it.”
The Stratcomm boss enjoined the mentees to endeavour to value their employees.
She reminded them that they cannot drive through their visions alone but the people they employ must be made to share in their vision.
“People with a vision sometimes feel that everybody else does not understand the vision, but you can’t do it all by yourself. Try, you will see that there are people who share your vision,” she said.
According to her, the aspirations of their workers must be seen to if they are to contribute to the attainment of the goals of the enterprise.
In her view, “ordinary things around us can be turned into successful enterprises.” It only requires, she emphasized, vision and tenacity of purpose, backed by a willingness to learn.
