Fred Pappoe denies rift with government

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe has denied any rift between the FA and the Ministry of Sports as is being speculated in sections of the media. Mr. Pappoe said this in an interview on Asempa FM’s ‘Fire for Fire’ programme on Tuesday in response to a question as to whether the Ministry of Youth and Sports was usurping their duty in deciding friendly matches for the Black Stars. He said no decision has been taken on the teams that the Black Stars will be facing in a series of friendly matches in preparations towards the remaining 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. He said the FA is in charge of ensuring that the right country is selected based on a complete assessment of all the options available. “There are quite a number of offers on the table. I am hearing Wales and Nigeria for the first time but I know of Bulgaria and Belarus.” Mr. Pappoe said. He said the FA’s agent has just furnished the association with information of Libya’s interest in playing Ghana. He said it is difficult to say if someone is interfering with the FA’s job but indicated that all correspondence between the two national teams need to be done between the two football associations and not between a ministry and an FA as is being speculated. Mr. Pappoe noted that he is hopeful that no tug-of-war will ensue between the FA and the Ministry over who Ghana plays in a friendly game. Story by Derick Romeo Adogla/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
