Michael Essien will get a rest from Chelsea duties on Tuesday for the Champions League trip to Moscow to face Locomotive.
The midfielder who has been omnipresent this season for the reigning Premier League champions will not be risked on the artificial pitch of Moscow.
"We have to take into consideration the artificial pitch," said Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti.
"We have some players like Essien – he has an injury – to play there is not a good idea. If it is possible, I don't want to put him on that pitch. I want to give him a rest."
Essien has been in fine form since returning from a long injury lay-off and Ancelotti has already said he will do his best to protect him from suffering any further damage.
