For the second time in a week, the deputy captain of the Black Stars has pleaded with Ghanaians to forgive the team of any wrong doing, asking the nation to revive interest in the side ahead of a crucial set of fixtures.

The Stars are about to begin qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in addition to aiming to go one better in next year's African Cup of Nations after losing on penalties last year.

There seems to be palpable discontent among Ghanaians about the Black Stars after the debacle in Brazil.

“I think going to a Nations Cup demands a lot. First of all, we need our fans behind us. We need the Ghanaians to support us,” he told Joy Sports in an exclusive interview on Sunday afternoon.

“If there is anything that has disturbed them, they should forgive us. We are pleading with them and we need them to back us up because before the AFCON, we have the World Cup qualifiers,” he went on, hours after the team sealed a seventh straight AFCON berth.

“So we have important games coming up and without our home people, without our brothers and sisters, or fathers and aunties, I think it is going to be difficult.”

“So I am pleading with every Ghanaian to forgive us for whatever has happened.”

Ayew scored the first goal for Ghana against Mauritius which confirmed the Black Stars’ qualification to Gabon.
