Ghana boxing's undefeated siblings, Bastie and Issah Samir have joined the list of marquee boxers in Oscar de La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions after signing a five-year promotional deal.
The two announced this at a news conference at their Wisdom Boxing Gym in their native Accra earlier today. The duo are expected to get some of biggest fight opportunities over the five year period.
"We want Ghanaians to know that we are still very active and are embarking on the next phase of our careers. We ready to take on the rest of the world," Issah, the younger of the two told the media.
Issah Samir, who annexed the IBF Youth Super Welterweight title in 2013 added that says the big standards set by legends like Azumah 'Zoom Zoom' Nelson, Alfred 'Cobra' Kotey and Ike 'Bazooka' Quartey leaves a great responsibility for the younger ones like him to achieve great things in the pugilistic sport.
"We have desired to get to the very top and we are grateful to our trainer of many years, Ofori Asare and our many loyal fans who have stuck with us through tough times for all the encouragement," Issah added.
Bastie, a former sparring partner of the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jnr and former captain of Ghana's Amateur Boxing team (Black Bombers), who made the announcement, was excited about the new partnership.
"Golden Boy Promotions is a great promotional outfit that has made great champions. We are glad to be part of this family and we look forward to big fights," he told the news conference. Bastie, who turned 30 today, also promised to win a world title within the next two years.
"We look forward to fighting the best and dominating in our respective weight divisions in the sport."
The two boxers are expected to leave Ghana for the US, where they will be based in Las Vegas.
Bastie and Issah Samir have had a good foundation from the amateur ranks and started their professional careers on a high as well. Bastie an Olympian from the Beijing 2008 Games, is undefeated in 15 fights - 14 wins and a draw. His younger brother Issah also has a record of 14 wins and no loss.
The signing of the brothers by Golden Boy follows a trend where some big name Ghanaian boxers have been associated with big international promotional outfits. Ike Quartey was promoted by the likes of the Acaries Brothers and Lou DiBella, Joshua Clottey worked with Bob Arum and made his biggest achievements under his Top Rank Promotions.
Joseph Agbeko also won his IBF bantamweight under the Legendary Don King Promotions.
The Samir Brothers have now become the first Ghanaian boxers to work with Golden Boy who are now putting together the biggest fights in the sport. The promotional outfit has the likes of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Bernard 'The Executioner' Hopkins in its stables.
