As is usual, there are always two sides to a story.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane claims his side were handed a raw deal in the Confederation Cup eviction on Wednesday 18 by Ghanaian side Medeama in Sekondi.
But the coach of the Absa Premiership champions is bitter at the circumstances surrounding his side’s elimination after the 2-0 defeat at Essipong. The final score meant Sundowns bowed out on the away goal rule after a first leg 3-1 win in Pretoria last week.
Medeama struck in the 36th minute through Malik Akowuah's successful penalty following a foul in the box by Thabo Nthethe. Then Bernard Ofori doubled their lead in the 64th minute.
Sundowns suffered a huge setback moments later with the sending off of goalkeeper Denis Onyango for a kick on Mohammed Abass.
What's Pitso Mosimane's take on the game?
"Unbelievable! We had people from Medeama coming our bus to fight and we had to fight back. And the referees from Algeria were unbelievable. Medeama had a very good team but when we attack, it’s offside, offside!" charged the former Bafana Bafana coach.
Despite this, he was quick to praise the home team's work ethic. "This is not football the referee from Algeria was unbelievable. But Medeama won, congratulations to Medeama, they are a very good team,” he said in a post-match press conference.
The draw for the next stage of the competition will be conducted on May 24 in Cairo. And they could face TP Mazembe, Tanzania's Young Africans, Libya's Al Ahli Tripoli, Algeria's MO Bejaia or Tunisia's Sportive Sahel amongst others.
