The National Weightlifting Team, the Black Cranes, will participate in the Upcoming Olympics in Rio after they picked one of the five slots in the male division at the Africa championship in Yaoundé.
The slot was won through the team qualification system and cranes will represent Africa alongside, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon and Morocco.
President of the Weightlifting Federation Ben Nunoo Mensah believes plans are already in place for smooth preparation before the games.
“There are only 5 slots for African men’s team and Ghana has happened to pick one of these slots,” he told Joy Sports.
“It is up to the technical director to decide which of our athletes will best represent Ghana.”
"The Ministries have made arrangements with the Colombian government that some of our athletes who will have qualified for the Rio games to go there.”
“Once they come back, our next approach with the Ministries will be a training tour.”
