Former Ghanaian international Yaw “Rush” Preko says it is “Ke Nako”(its time) for the local coaches to be given the Black Stars coaching job, and said he was ready to fill the vacant position.
“I am going to submit my Curriculum Vitae (CV) when GFA opens the door for the job,” he noted.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Saturday Morning Sports Show, Sportsworld, Yaw Preko said the foreign coaches have taken Ghana for a ride for far too long, and said it is time we re-orient ourselves as a nation and repose confidence in our own.
When quizzed if the local coaches are capable of coaching the Black Stars, he reiterated “the Stars coaching job is the easiest of all the coaching at the national team level, what you need is the iron hand to enforce and maintain discipline and you are there”.
He said the local coaches have been chastised time and time without number for not having the courage to instill discipline in the players, but assured that he would not hesitate to sanction any player without fear or favour.
He urged the Ghana Football Association to give them the same support they gave the foreign coaches and would deliver beyond expectation.
Yaw “Rush” Preko career started at Powerlines, a colts club, and his first European club was R.S.C. Anderlecht where they became the Belgian champions three times. He played in Turkey from 1997-2004 before joining Halmstads BK in the Allsvenskan.
He then left Halmstads BK in 2005 as the club did not renew his contract, he signed for Saudi Arabian team Al-Ettifaq and stayed with them for almost two years and then signed for HAGL in the Vietnamese V-League, he stayed with them for one season before leaving the club.
Yaw “Rush” Preko is now a coach with CAF license “B” certificate and is currently understudying Coach Dauda Lutterodt an experienced local coach.
