Members of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly are to undergo free medical screening to assess their health status on hepatitis 'B' disease.
Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive, announced this at an emergency meeting of the Assembly at Winneba on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
Mr Abbam-Quaye assured members that his administration had already made the necessary arrangement with a medical team to carry out the exercise designed to protect members against the disease described as very dangerous and easily comparable to the dreaded HIV/AIDS.
He advised the assembly members to ensure that all their family members also benefited from the exercise, which is expected to take place at Windy Lodge Hotel at the Winneba Low Cost.
According to Mr. Abbam-Quaye, the Assembly would foot the bill of the screening exercise on behalf of the members.
The meeting also sensitized the assembly members on the re-denomination of the cedi and urged them to help their constituents especially the illiterates to determine the value of the new currency.
