Satellites Coach: Japan trip was a flop but…

Black Satellites coach, Orlando Wellington has declared the team's trip to Japan to participate in a four-nation tournament with Japan as host and Spain as a total flop for his team. According to him things did not go as expected and believes the playing body and officials were tired due to their long journey from Ghana to Japan. The team played three matches - losing two and winning the other. They won their first game against a second string Japan under-20 side by a goal to nil but lost their second and third matches to Japan’s first team and Spain with 4-0 and 4-1 margins respectively. He said the performance of the team was not good because the boys did not have enough rest after the long journey and it was apparent they were tired on the field of play. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Scoreboard on Sunday, coach Wellington stated that the team's aim of going into the four-nation tournament was to use the opportunity as preparatory grounds for the team and expose his local players to international competition. He added that the team is a new one that needs time to gel and should not be compared to the team that won the World Cup in 2009. Story: Benedict Owusu/Asempa Sports
