Civil and Local Government staff all over the country will not work today. Instead they will pour onto the streets in what they say is part two of an earlier action. Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) started the protests last month to press home demands for the right to negotiate directly with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for pay rise. It suspended the action after submitting a petition to the President. But president of the association, Edward Foli, tells Joy News members are compelled to resume the protest because there are no signs government is interested in addressing their grievances. “We gave the government the opportunity for all this time to this respond. As up till now we have not had any response. I think the council has decided to resume the demonstration. “That is the order of the day. If you don’t make noise, they wouldn’t hear you.” Mr. Foli says CLOGSAG members may have to lay down their tools if government does not respond favorably to them this time round. “We are sure that government will respond to our petition,” he said adding that “the council will have to meet and take a decision” if the council’s petition is turned down.
