When Kwaku Teng, 27, last Saturday boasted that he had been swimming in bigger rivers and could therefore swim easily in the Birim River, little did he know that he will never return when he set out to do just that.
A few minutes after entering the river at Akyem Oda, Teng got drowned and his lifeless body was retrieved from the swollen river.
An eyewitness said that the deceased attended the funeral of Nana Yaa Kwaah, 45, (Birim Okomfo) a fetish priestess of the Birim River, at the weekend and later decided to have his bath in the river.
The deceased was warned that it was dangerous for him to swim in the river at that time in view of its high tide but he spurned the advise.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Sampson Agbeko confirmed the incident and said the body had been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
