Reverend Togbe S.K. Fugah, President of Anloga Carpenters Association in Kumasi, has observed that the influx of cheap and inferior goods into the Ghanaian market was undermining efforts of local manufacturers. He identified lack of capital and acquisition of vital equipment as some of the challenges facing small-scale industries. Rev Fugah made the observation when addressing a monthly meeting of the association in Kumasi at the weekend. They discussed some pertinent issues affecting them and initiated programmes that would enhance their businesses. Rev Fugah who is also Head of Ewe community in Ashanti, appealed to Government to encourage the youth to acquire vocational and technical skills to be self-employed. He said the youth should in addition be encouraged to undertake farming to produce adequate raw materials and food crops for local consumption and export. Rev Fugah appealed to Government to assist small-scale industries under the micro-financing project of the Millennium Challenge Accounts (MCA) to expand their businesses to employ more people reduce unemployment. He asked members of the association to be law-abiding and industrious to sustain their businesses for decent living. Source: GNA
