Radford University’s basketball team was the toast of fans at the just-ended annual private university students association of Ghana games.
Radford’s maiden appearance at the ninth edition of the sporting fiesta featuring the best of university sporting talents attracted the attention of all, including scouts who had thronged the venue head-hunting budding talents.
Radford competed in two out of a total of 18 different sporting events.
Radford pitted strength against Central University and West End University in the fiercely contested football category. The Presbyterian and Pentecost Universities were in the same category.
In a draw game against Central University, the determined lads went on and thrashed West End in a decisive 3-1 game.
But luck eluded them at the semi-final stage where they gallantly lost to regent university, but eventually clinched the bronze medal in a competitive third position game against Methodist University, with a marginal 1-0 win.
But it was in the basketball category that the boys sparkled most.
Brushing aside challenge from The Presbyterian , Pentecost, Kings , and Regent Universities, the Radford team soared higher, reaching the finals in their very maiden appearance by dint of hard work, team work and determination, but lost the trophy to Marshalls , in an action-packed final, settling eventually for the silver medals
Nana Dwomoh Sarpong, Executive Chairman of Radford University College commended them for the sterling performance, and vowed the university will grab gold in the basketball and other categories next year.
