John Mensah has promised Sunderland he will do everything possible to stay fit this season after arriving for a second loan spell.
The Ghana defender spent a season interrupted by injury on loan from Lyon but so strong is Steve Bruce's faith in his qualities he has opted to bring him back.
Mensah had to undergo extensive back injury treatment last season and looked to have returned to his best with some awesome displays at the 2010 World Cup.
He hopes Sunderland can see that side of him this season. "I felt bad I couldn't play a lot of matches for the team but I hope this season will be better," he told the club's website. I couldn't do what I wanted for the team but this season everything is going to be possible. By the grace of God this season will be good."
Mensah made 18 appearances for Sunderland last season and despite several reports linking him with moves away from the club, he insists he wanted to come back.
"I am so excited, he said. I have been here for one year and I always wanted to come back. I know how my colleagues here receive me, and the fans and the manager too. I hope to deliver now I am back here. By the grace of God I will do well for the team."
