A new formula for the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund has been announced.
Under the new directives, the share of the National Youth Employment Programme of the Common Fund had been increased from 15 per cent to 20 per cent while allocation for people with disabilities had been reduced from five per cent to two per cent.
The allocation for Self-Help Projects had been reduced from 10 per cent to five per cent.
This was announced by the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwasi Adjei-Boateng at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Fifth Municipal Assembly held on Thursday at Koforidua.
He announced that, contract had been awarded for the construction of the Kassardjan Road dual carriageway from Oyoko roundabout to the Polytechnic Junction and added that work was scheduled to begin before the end of the month.
Nana Adjei-Boateng said the site for the construction of 64 blocks of flats under the government affordable housing scheme was being cleared for the project to take off in the municipality.
He said within the first quarter of the year, the Assembly spent over ¢267 million on waste management in terms of purchase of fuel, lubricants and payment of repairs.
Nana Adjei-Boateng said the assembly was in the process of acquiring new waste disposal site and urged the members of the assembly to start preparing the minds of their electorate towards payment of the cost of the management of their waste.
He said the assembly was also considering the introduction of private participation in the collection of waste especially in areas where the houses had been properly demarcated.
Nana Adjei-Boateng announced that the assembly had decided to ban the use of pan latrines in the municipality by December this year and urged the assembly members to consider how to support some of their electorate who could not convert from the pan latrines to the water closets to do so.
