Dear Delegates,
This letter is from a friend and a genuine admirer of the NPP and I am ready with this letter to prevent you from being brought into harm, shame and disintegration.
It is not meant to destroy any of the five able aspiring flag bearers, neither does it want to humiliate nor exhibit doubts of the qualities of any of them. Its main intention is to urge the delegates to look at this philosophical Question. “DOES THE WORLD NEED TWO SUNS?”
Speaking from my own point of view and expressing the views of majority of your admirers of the Osono Party here in the UK, USA and wider afield you will be urged to consult your inner thought and find out what really makes a man selfish or selfless. Consider this analogy of a selfish romantic man who wrote to a girlfriend he fancied her dearly. “He said, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THAT IF YOU CANNOT BE MINE YOU WOULD NEVER BE ANOTHER’S.” Anyone can guess the implications of this vow. Is that what the NPP wants? Definitely the answer is No.
I am conscious of the risk of being accused of breaking a Constitution provision. However, I find it my moral duty, at this crucial point, in mother Ghana’s history to step in so that whoever the parties select will come out as the most appropriate to lead GHANA.
To give weight to this letter I would like to do a self Introduction.
I am a man of a matured age living in London. I have worked with people, among people and for people. I get invited to many European Countries to grace Ghanaian occasions and functions.
Currently, I am a Patron of Twelve Ghanaian Associations in London and ex Patron of African Forum of the Conservative Party in the IK. I speak with many voices and in the UK I am the official Co-ordinator of Union of Ghanaian Chiefs (although I speak for myself here). While in London I have had the opportunity to live with all the High Commissioners: of the various Governments ranging from Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia, Dr. Hilla Liman. Ft. Lt. J.J. Rawlings, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, to the current Professor John Fiifi Atta Mills.
I am quite aware of your five aspirants competing on democratic principles, this is very fair. But it will be an unforgivable error if I do not allow you to benefit from my store of experience. I am in a position to come out with the views that official members of the party are reluctant to venture. For that purpose I have short listed the Candidates to three. This does not mean that the other two are not fit; forgive me if I sound like that.
1) Mr Alan Cash – a very popular candidate. But with all his popularity, handsomeness, his joviality, approachability and sagacity, he is not a National figure and therefore not ready for the presidency.
2) Mr Isaac Osei – The most popular Ghana’s High Commissioner of UK since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s era. He put Mr Kwasi Armah of the Nkrumah era into shade. Isaac was loved by all Ghanaians regardless of their Political affiliation. He created Ghanaian atmosphere just as the current High Commissioner is trying to do in the UK. But I say of Mr Osei, he has not made himself known nationally though he was the Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board. Again Isaac is not ready for the presidency.
3) The third candidate is Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo. This is the candidate who comes across as a National electable candidate. Before I go through his profile I would like you to revisit the result of the last Presidential Election. Nana Addo was only beaten at the tape by a centimetre. He was in fact the winner at the first Instance but defeated during the second round for a simple tiny Regional awareness analysis to the effect below:
1) Nzema – Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkurumah
2) Brong Ahafo – Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia
3) Noth – Dr. Hilla Liman
4) Volta – FT. LT. J.J. Rawlings
5) Ashanti – Mr. John Agyekum Kuffour
6) Fante - Professor John Fiifi Atta Mills
The above decided the final result. I have taken into account the various Military adventures of General Kutu Acheampong, Lt Colonel Kotoka, General Akwasi A. Afrifa, General Akufo and Ft. Lt. J.J. Rawlings first and second interferences and also the Nominal Leadership of Mr Akufo who was just a figure head, not a President from Eastern Region. If Ghanaians go by the above measure they will realise that Nana Akufo of blessed memory was mistakenly taken to be a President from the Eastern Region but in fact a ceremonial head.
Please note that the deserters of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo during the last election will now consider him as the appropriate one from the Eastern Region to occupy the gap as the first President from the Eastern Region.
This is because the Regions have now realised that the so call change has been a change for backward matching. As the NPP slogan suggests “WE ARE MOVING FORWARD.”
I was in Ghana recently for four months and I heard a popular song from Children to this tone “YASESA MU ANU YENHO, NANA AKUFO ADDO NA YEPE.” Meaning we have regretted for the change that we got therefore it is Nana Akufo Addo that we want. When one hears children sing like these then adults should take them seriously and pay heed.
When I returned to London some friends who listened to the Ghana news said to me Nana, “SESEI DEE ENKO YIE, ANKA MO NIPA NO BEYE ADEE” This is from NDC members. The above paragraph is the result of my independent survey; but if Nana Akufo Addo is an International personality just as Alan cash and Isaac Osei but Nana’s profile stands taller than his own height and the height of the other two.
To sum him up of his strength and weakness I would say he is very energetic both at home and away. His little arrogance is not foolishness but a cream of confidence; His obstinacy is a firmness of character. He does not drag his feet; he takes firm and fair decisions.
An NDC admirer once said Nana Akufo is a polished J.J. Rawlings because he is strong, dynamic, outspoken but courteous, this is what Ghanaians want. The difference between Nana and J.J. is that the former respects and upholds Human Right principles. He believes in rule of law and practices it. In this open letter I have a paragraph for the NDC and for the CPP.
To CPP, you are advised for a change of Leadership or you may remain in wilderness forever. The only person I know is Dr. Akosa but there may be others.
To the NDC – Woe onto you if change your Leader. The NDC should not forget that the Muslim Country will be at war with you if Nana Konadu is selected. Has anybody seen a woman Imam Standing and preaching from the Koran while their men Kowtow to her. A woman Leadership is not ready yet but for a deputy – Yes!
I would like to draw your attention to the compiled Lectures of Professor Adu Boahen through the AFRC and PNDC. In a book entitled “THE GHANAIAN SPHINX A REFLECTIONS ON THE CONTEMPORARY HISTORY OF GHANA 1972 – 1987”. It said there were many reasons for that result but the most compelling one was the fact that the rift between Mr. Victor Owusu and Paa Willie became so widely opened that even if Solomon the wise was around to offer his wisest even for free advice it would have been ignored.
Dr. Hilla Limann walked on the smooth pavement between Victor and Paa Willie to victory. The over confidence and complacency of PFP prevented the Leadership from putting into campaigning as much drive and energy as it could have done. It was this same over confidence that led the PFP to contemptuously reject the move for a merger with UNC.
The failure of these two sister parties to merge was truly a regrettable and highly reprehensible in the first place, instead of joining forces against their common opponent – The PNP. They spent their campaign attacking each other which must have prevented each of them really gaining new ground while those dedicated members of the UP Tradition felt so disillusioned that many of them simply abstained from Voting”. Today it is this same overconfidence and contemptuous attitude prevailing that any chosen flag Bearer will win regardless of the person’s political and National image of electability status.
Let me conclude by quoting an Akan adage: FUNTUMFUNAFU AND DENKYEMFUNAFU”, both eat, chew and swallow into one same stomach but due to greed, selfishness and ostentation both become physically and verbally aggressive to each other at the dining table. The warning lights flashing echoes the days of Victor and Paa Willie the members did not see reason until they were engulfed and so is it likely that the 2012 result would be if you fail to pay heed to this scientific political insight.

Some of Nana Akufo-Addo’s achievements as Attorney-General include:

5. Chaired the Executive Council of the AU for the Grand Debate on Union Government at the Accra Summit in July 2007
6. Convinced the European Union, as Chairperson of the AU Executive Council, to reconvene the EU-AU summit after 4 years off due to Europe’s hard line position on the Zimbabwean question. He famously told EU leaders in Brussels in a firm but diplomatic manner, “You can’t pick and choose which African countries to negotiate with at a summit,” paving the way for the Lisbon summit in December 2007.
The analysis below makes Nana Akufo Addo; A Local Boy; A District Hero, A National Personality and International Statesman. His endorsement as a Flag Bearer wins the next 2010 Election, not for himself but for NPP and for forwardness of GHANA in the Global Village.
Yours faithfully,
NANA DR. KUSI APPIAH OSRAMAN II
