Any Ghanaian who has been following political party activities as they are undertaken in Ghana currently would be able to tell one thing and it is the searching for a presidential candidate for the NPP in 2012 general elections.
Since the party began its search for a marketable candidate to contest the presidential election on the ticket of the NPP, many noble men came out and showed their interest therefore the campaign to solicit delegates support by these interested presidential aspirants kicked off a couple of months ago.
Thank God, almost all the five or so presidential aspirants are about to end their tour of the ten regions as well as all the constituencies where they met the delegates and sold their campaign messages to them to win their votes.
There has been reported cases where some of the aspirants where alleged to have issued statements very distasteful to either delegates, party faithful or other aspirants in the race thereby causing exchanges here and there among supporters belonging to different camps.
As bad or foul languages are not encouraged in practicing healthy politics, hey they are bound to happen therefore the need for the campaign leaders in the camps to ensure that there is sanity in the system for all aspirants to enjoy fair play.
This year’s search for a presidential candidate for the great elephant party has been wonderful looking at the way all the aspirants took chances to tour the whole country. The media coverage each and every aspirant enjoyed wherever they toured as also be helpful in feeding the masses of what was happening and to inform their choice when the election day comes.
Monitoring from newspapers, radios and various webpage’s that carried stories of these aspirants gives clear indication as to what is going to happen come August 7, when the party delegates go to cast their votes to elect one out of the five to represent the party in the general election.
The indication so far coming out from the monitoring of the campaign tours of these aspirants is making it clear that Nana Akufo-Addo, will come clean after the delegates have cast their votes to elect their choice to bear the presidential ticket of the NPP in the general election.
When one follows carefully, he will agree that indeed Nana Akufo-Addo, is the NPP Messiah, to help the party wrest power from the NDC. His track record, his personal composition to politics, his touch to campaign strategies, the packaging of the campaign messages and how he markets them to the electorates best describes him than any description to be given to him.
If it comes to speaking fluent English I am not going to touch that because even some Ghanaians who can not keep his name in mind refers to him as “that Queens English speaking parrot”.
Haven listen to him on several occasions clear all doubts he was former president Kufuor’s trainee. He picks an issue, observe how it was, what was agreed upon as a solution to the problem, what was done to it, how it became better and handed over to the current government as well as it present state and if it has gone bad or not.
For instance, he talked about health and refers to how it was under the NDC government which was cash and carry that made it very difficult for many Ghanaians to receive medication attention.
Then he disclosed how the NPP adopted the health insurance scheme to salvage the poor health system, how many Ghanaians came to accept it as the best health facility and handed over to NDC to run which is collapsing now and the need to reinstate the NPP in government to restore it once again.
This campaign strategy accepted by Nana Akufo-Addo, is devoid of bickering, insults and condemnations as it has rather helped the delegates to understand issues hereby informing their choice as to who can best lead them in the general elections.
Apart from all these qualities aforementioned, it is also clear that the great elephant party believes in he who comes first must be served first. Some members of the Kukurudu party also believes that it will be a waste of time, money, energy and other resources to market a new candidate who might not be much known by the electorate apart from Nana Akufo-Addo who’s name is on the lips of every Ghanaian as the one who can rescue the country from sinking.
Suppose these are to be followed in selecting a candidate for the NPP, there would be no need to go to delegate’s congress. Yes some party faithful have started to call on Alan Kyeremanten to throw in the towel and they are making the call because of the revelations coming out pointing to Nana Akufo-Addo’s possible win.
Take a look at the balancing of events as they are reported everyday and you see how the camp of Alan Kyeremanten is getting quiet now a day as compared to its noise making days. This should tell one that the nice looking gentleman may be gradually throwing in the towel and preparing to throw his support behind that of Nana Akufo-Addo.
Trust the NPP, it may shock the whole world come August 7, where possibly all defeated aspirants will close their camps and join the possible winner Nana Akufo-Addo to wrest power from the NDC.
It can happen. But for now let us wait patiently and see what will happen. But to make a prediction as to who will win surely is going to be Nana Akufo-Addo.
